Bottles seem to be the internet's go-to tool for viral challenges.
A couple of years ago, it was all about bottle flipping -- a simple trick that accelerated to the dizzy heights of online fame after one very memorable high school talent show.
These days, though, it's all about the bottle cap challenge.
It's tricky to track down the exact origin of the bottle cap challenge. If we trace the trail back from some recent celebrity videos, they appear to lead to this video of Slovakian man Roman Kambur posting his attempt on June 20.
Karo Pashikyan, an MMA fighter from Kazakhstan, then uploaded his own effort last week. He tagged Kambur, along with various MMA fighters and Hobbs and Shawactor Jason Statham.

From there, the whole thing seems to have very quickly blown up.
UFC fighter Max Holloway shared a video of the challenge on Friday, which has now been viewed almost two million times. He tagged musician John Mayer in the clip.

Mayer then responded with a video of himself completing the task, and also challenging Statham.

And on Monday, The Transporterstar obliged, with Statham posting his own video of the bottle cap challenge to Instagram. In fairness, he does nail it quite impressively:

Now, following Statham's attempt, it looks like the challenge is well on its way to bottle flipping levels of fame.
