Exciting casting alert: Nasim Pedrad is going to play Mindy Lahiri's pediatrician on @TheMindyProject #tca16
— Saba Hamedy (@saba_h) August 5, 2016
The Iranian-American actress will play Leo's (Mindy and Danny's son) pediatrician.
"I've been dying to write for her forever," Kaling said of Pedrad. "She fits so perfectly in our world."
The casting news came hours after showrunners announced Bryan Greenberg will join the cast as a new pediatric nurse. Rebecca Rittenhouse will also star as a a young new doctor at Shulman & Associates.
During the TCA panel, Kaling and Warburton also revealed that there will be a Pokemon Gojoke next season -- and some more Danny Castellano (Chris Messina).
"He's still in the world of the show, so fans don't have to worry," Kaling said.
But fans dohave to wait until the first episode of season five -- titled "Decision 2016" -- to find out which romantic interest Mindy Lahiri ends up picking.
One intriguing potential storyline: An episode called "If I Was Born a White Man,” where Mindy Lahiri's character would experience sexism and then wake up a white male. Kaling said that episode has yet to be pitched to Hulu, however.
The show, which switched to Hulu last season after three seasons on Fox, returns to Hulu on Oct. 4. It will be 16 episodes, cut down from the 26 episodes in season 4.
